How to Leverage Hot Jobs to Your Client's Advantage

Speaker: Kristen Cumming

The Career Development Association of Alberta is planning a multi-chapter event for October 24th-28th, 2016 to support member skills and capacity in accessing and interpreting labour market information. Kristen Cumming of Cantos Performance Management will provide four full-day sessions in each of the following locations: Calgary, Lethbridge, Red Deer and Edmonton

Each session will be approximately six hours of content delivery over a full day with breaks and lunch.  This session will explore labour market trends and emerging issues that impact career development practice. Rather than extract “hot jobs”, this session will connect practitioners to what labour market conditions make particular occupations and sectors “hot”, and will explore how to leverage labour market conditions to the best advantage of clients’ self-determined preferred futures. The anticipated agenda will include:

  • Redekopp’s Three Horizon model: Now, Next, Future
  • Contextualizing labour market trends in career development practice
  • Five forces influencing the labour market
  • Technology, globalization, political, social / demographic, economic / industry
  • Exploration of now and emerging next
  • Strategies to engage labour market information in career development practice and in client capacity building
  • Time: Strategies for working with clients when you have: only 5 minutes, 10 minutes or an hour or more

Kristen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and a Master of Education degree in Workplace and Adult Learning. She is an instructor with the Bachelor of Management Business Economics program at the University of Alberta – Augustana Campus and operates a successful consulting practice through which she serves as a speaker, facilitator and trainer in career development, recruitment and retention, leadership and execution.
